Dry / Itchy Skin
A common skin condition, dry and itchy skin, can be brought on by a number of things, including underlying medical conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, or thyroid disorders, as well as environmental causes like cold or dry air, hot showers or baths, and harsh soaps or detergents.
Redness, flakiness, cracking, and rough areas of skin are signs of dry and itchy skin. Additionally, the skin may be prone to acquiring fine lines and wrinkles and may feel constrictive and irritated.
Topical lotions, ointments, or oral drugs may be used to soothe the skin and lessen inflammation when treating dry, itchy skin. The underlying cause of the condition should also be found if possible and treated. The skin's natural moisture barrier can be restored and additional dryness and irritation prevented by routinely moisturizing the skin using a high-quality, fragrance-free moisturizer.
Avoiding hot showers or baths; using fragrance-free soaps and detergents; and dressing in soft, breathable clothing are additional important measures that can help to relieve dry and itchy skin. The best treatment and preventative plans should be determined for each specific instance by consulting a board-certified dermatologist.
